Container Hire Secrets

When it comes to container hire, its easy to find oneself somewhat confused. There are many different types of container, many variances in prices and many uses a container can be put to. Can you be sure that you are looking for the correct type of container to suit your needs? Following is our easy guide which will help you take the guesswork out of container hire.

Type of Container / Container Sizes

The main three uses for containers are:

  • storage
  • accommodation
  • distribution

If you require a container for distribution purposes, your shipping company can usually sort this for you as part of the package. The only decision to make is whether you need a refrigerated container or not.

For storage or accommodation, you need to work out if you could make do with second hand containers or if you really do require brand new steel containers for your operation.

This can make a big impact on price and often a second hand box with new paint work can look just as impressive. For storage second hand boxes will normally suffice but if you require container for office solutions or washing facilities for example then you would ideally buy new and get it kitted out to specification.

Container Hire Prices

The huge range of containers available for hire and purchase means that container hire prices are difficult to gauge. It depends how you wish your container to be kitted out. But to give a ball park figure, for a standard 20 ft secure for storage usage, look to pay around £100 - £120 for haulage (each way) and then a separate £10 - £15 a week hire charge. If you wish to hire longer term, it might work out more cost efficient to buy a container. £500 for a basic container would normally secure you a decent box. In fact containers can provide a cheap and secure building alternative. And remember, you would only have to pay for one way’s haulage.
